Hospital Lockdown: Day 20

As most of you know, I was admitted to the hospital Friday, February 25. Here’s the short version: I called my doctor with a minor concern and being extra cautious with me as she is due to my history, she had me come in for a quick check up. She did a FFN test, which can predict preterm labor just to be safe, and sent us on our way to wait for the results. I got a call a few hours later saying the test was positive and I needed to check into the hospital for the weekend. Monday our specialist came by to check my cervical length and it had shortened considerably. I was told I would not be going home.

Flash forward to today. I have been here for 20 days…praise God! I am in bed 98% of the time. The other 2% I am enjoying my bathroom privileges. I can get up to use the restroom and take a shower (sitting on my little plastic shower chair) and I’ll take it! When I was here for 11 days before Smith was born I couldn’t get up at all. Navigating the use of a male urinal and horrible rose- colored plastic bedpan is NOT something I want to experience again.

Each morning and evening my nurses check my vital signs, bring me my medicine and put me on the monitor. They monitor Gray’s heart rate and my uterus for contractions. Other than that, they usually just peek their heads in a few times throughout the day to check on me.

Jon stays with me every night. He's been amazing! He usually picks up food after work and heads my way. He has a super cool, double-decker blow up mattress that sits beside my bed so we’re at the same level. (All of the nurses are so impressed with our fancy air mattress and Jon’s dedication of course.)
We see our specialist every Monday and received another good report this week. Nothing changed. My cervical length was the same as the previous 2 weeks and Gray looked great. He estimated Gray weighed 2 pounds 11 ounces…60th percentile! I just need to keep my calorie intake up to keep bumping up that number. The chunkier the better!

I am 28 weeks and 1 day today! We made it to our 28-week goal…WOhOO…and now we’re on our way to 29. Every day Gray stays safe inside me is huge! We are so thankful and grateful for every morning we get to change our week/day count on the white board in our room. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers...Please keep them coming!!!!

I know some of you have been thoroughly annoyed at my lack of updates on my blog. I really am going to try to do better. I even already know what my next few posts are going to be about. In no particular order:
  1. What I miss most from home
  2. How I really feel about being here
  3. My take on some of the most ridiculous commercials I see during the day. (Most of which are food related)
  4. Some belly pics
  5. A photo tour of my new digs
We’ll see how long that takes me…

Thanks again for your texts, emails, prayers and support! I will continue to update you when I have any new information, but as we keep saying, "No news is good news"!

  3. I found your blog and your story touched me. I too was on bedrest with my twins as a "touch and go" situation. Each day was another day etc. monitors every morning and night....only bathroom priveledges and not to mention the terrible magnesium pumping through my veins. BUT the end is glorious. And God is seeing you through this.
I look forward to reading more from you. Hang in there!

  8. Hey Kori!
I haven't talked to you in FOREVER, but I've followed your recent ups and downs since Chris Bennett has your blog listed in his blogroll (even though his blog appears to be a thing of the past!). I was so excited to see that you were pregnant with Gray, and I'm glad to hear that you're doing well now (all things considered). Know how many people are praying for you and your family! Good luck sticking out the rest of your time in the hospital!

  9. Kori,

I found your blog from Brooke and Freelands. I haven't talked or seen you in AGES, but have been sitting here "reconnecting" with your world for the past hour, tears streaming down my face. I can't imagine the rollercoaster of emotions you've experienced over the past year. I can't imagine the pain and joy, and the confusion of having both of those emotions at the same time. You and I both know that the Lord redeemed Smith's life. He is safe in his makers arms...and now Gray is here. To fix the wrongs.

Know that I am praying for you. While you sit in that hospital bed prayer warriors are lifting you up. You're an amazing mother. Chin up...it's all worth it!

  10. I don't even know if you remember me but I found your blog through Brooke's last year and got an email from Dana when you found out you were pregnant again! I think you guys are awesome by the way and glad you have such great support. You guys are in our prayers! Good luck with everything, (we must be due within a few days of each other) and I look forward to keeping up with your journey!
