Busy Weekend!

Friday
Jon and I had a busy, but super fun weekend! Friday night we went to RT's sister's wedding in Frisco. Dee looked beautiful and we were honored to share in her and Brandon's special day!

Saturday
Saturday, I ran a bunch of errands in preparation for our fancy night out. It was Collin County Children's Advocacy Center's 2009 Gala...Safari Soiree! For those of you who don't know, my first real job out of college was at the Advocacy Center. I worked as the Development Associate and fell in LOVE with the Center and its mission. After leaving for a while, I'm back! In addition to working for my dad, I now work part-time as the Center's Grant Coordinator. (More on the Center in a bit)

Jon and Josh's private foundation, Kingdom Now, generously bought a table for the Center's biggest fundraiser of the year! Josh, Kim, Zach, Jaime, Terry and Richmond all met at our house to carpool to the Hilton Anatole Hotel downtown. The girls looked beautiful and the boys were looking pretty sharp in their black suits! When we arrived, we checked in, got our bidder numbers, headed to the open bars and started to scope out the auction items. We found lots of good things to slap our bid numbers on, in what I think was the Center's best Silent Auction ever!

The doors to the ballroom opened to a performance from the cast of The Lion King. The centerpieces were incredible and the huge, bright colored screens transformed the room. We enjoyed more Lion King performances while dinner was being served include my personally favorite...Hakuna Matata! The food was delicious. We had chicken with some yummy peach topping, steak, garlic mashed potatoes, veggies and bread. For dessert, they served this big chocolate sphere that was filled with berries and cream when you broke into it...yum! There was a moving impact moment about the Center, exciting Live Auction and raffle drawings.

The final entertainment for the evening was a performance by Frank Caliendo. Mr. Caliendo had a show in TBS called Frank TV and currently has a show in Vegas. He's famous for his impressions of George Bush, Bill Clinton, Robert DeNiro, Charles Barkley and John Madden...Now I know why! His George Bush is crazy good! It's not just his voice, but his facial expressions and body language! We were definitely entertained. We left with some fun auction items and midnight snacks in ToGo boxes (brilliant idea by the way)!

It was a special night, shared with friends for an amazing cause. Every detail of the evening was fabulous and I hope it was a huge success for the Center!!!

Collin County Children's Advocacy Center Mission:
To identify, protect and improve the lives of abused and neglected children.

Some History:
CCCAC is a non-profit organization with a staff of 29. The public-private collaboration began in 1991 after a task force formed by the Junior League of Plano identified sexual and physical abuse of children as a problem surpassing violent crime, poverty and teen pregnancy. Today, the Center includes 220 professionals from 13 Collin County law enforcement agencies, Collin County District Attorney's Office, Collin County Child Protective Services as well as medical, family assistance caseworkers and therapeutic providers, all supported by a strong contingent of community volunteers. The Center is dedicated to serving Collin County children and their non-offending family members suffering from abuse. All services are provided at no charge to families.

If you would like more information about CCCAC, please visit their website: www.cacplano.org or feel free to ask me any questions!

Remember to report suspected abuse. It's the law!

Sunday

We slept in Sunday morning and went to brunch at Breadwinners. If you didn't know, breakfast/brunch is my absolute favorite kind of food! Then we ran some errands and went to see Angels and Demons.

Jon wanted to see it Friday or Saturday night, but we were a tad busy, so we went to the 2:50 pm showing on Sunday. I was a little hesitant because I wasn't a big fan of The DeVinci Code movie. I read the book and was not impressed by the movie adaptation. I also read Angels and Demons, but I read it about 4 years ago. I think that fact improved my opinion of the movie. I really enjoyed it! The rest of the evening we ate dinner and caught up on some of our TV show season finales and took a walk around the neighborhood.

No one could have possibly wanted to read this much detail or rambling about our weekend, but there you have it! Thanks for reading mom!!!
