Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you all had a special Valentine's day spending time with someone you love! Jon and I had a great day, but when it was all said and done, we decided to make a few modifications for next year. Before I get ahead of myself, here is February 14th at a glance:

We started the morning with coffee in bed while we watched a few shows. It's important to point out that we don't have a TV in our bedroom and Jon NEVER watches TV in the morning. The "TV in the bedroom" debate started when we were dating and continued throughout our engagement. When it came time to move into our apartment after the wedding, I took the high road and generously compromised. There would be no TV in our bedroom. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my decision to go along with Jon's wishes. We don't fall asleep to a bunch of useless noise and wake up in the middle of the night because of unwanted light beaming from the tube. I am now used to reading before bed or simply falling asleep in silent darkness...and I can now admit, I'm glad our sleeping sanctuary is TV-free. However, there are times I want to curl up in bed and watch a movie or a TV show from the comforts of our yummy covers and cozy bed. Which brings me to why watching a few TV shows in bed on Valentine's Day morning was a special treat!

Here we are in bed with our (actually Jon's) Valentine's Day coffee cups. Jon LOVES coffee and has great affections for really good coffee cups. I got him the one I'm holding last year and gave him the red one yesterday to add to his collection. It has cute little hearts covering the outside. (Please excuse our attractive bed-head!)

After our morning lounging, I ran up to the store to pick up a few things I needed to cook breakfast. We had waffles with fresh strawberries, bananas and whipped cream! Yummy! (I forgot to take a picture of my glorious meal...tear.)

For the next hour or so, we tried to figure out what we should do next. The movie we wanted to see didn't have any show times that would work with our schedule and there wasn't really anything else we wanted to see. (We already say He's just Not That Into You, which if you haven't seen, you MUST go see it soon!) We thought about going out and looking for a chair for our study, or browsing around some of our favorite shops. But in the end, we decided to do nothing! Why didn't we think of that before?

When Jon got out of the shower, he thought it would be funny to act like he was letting his hair dry in this fashionable towel wrap while he got ready. (This amazing wrap was done with my guidance. You should have seen his hilarious attempt!) Is he not the cutest thing you've ever seen?

But before we did nothing, we ran over to Lyric and RT's so Cole could give us his Valentine's and my mom could give Lyric and I our Valentine's "sussies". Ever since I can remember, my mom has given us special treats on Valentine's Day. She always made us breakfast, served on a valentine's themed plate with a cute napkin to match when we lived at home. We usually got cute pajama pants or some type of clothing and fun little stuff like cute pens and stuffed animals. In college, my dad would send flowers and my mom would send a package full of goodies! The best part is the tradition continues!!! Thanks mom and dad for my goodie bag! Y'all will always be my Valentines! And thank you Cole for the sweet Valentine and yummy mini-cupcakes!

Now onto nothing...

When we got back home we vegged-out on the couch until we had to get ready for dinner. It was perfect! We looked through the movies on Apple TV and decided on When Harry Met Sally. I had never seen the entire movie start to finish. I loved it!

After the movie, it was time to get ready. We rushed, as usual, to get out the door to make our reservations at Silver Fox. It's one of our favorite restaurants and did not disappoint. Everything was delicious! Great wine, salad and a perfectly cooked fillet. It was a great night!

Now I mentioned at the beginning of this post that Jon and I have some new ideas for next years Valentine's Day.

#1. We're rethinking our original ideas about Valentine's dinner. Don't get us wrong, our dinner was amazing, but Valentine's night is always so crowded and restaurants have to cram in 20 extra tiny tables. Before you know it, what you intended to be an intimate dinner can become a little more distracting and structured then you intended. (Condensed menus and less dessert options!). Cooking dinner together at home will most likely be in next years lineup.

#2. There will be no more store bought Valentine's cards. How many of you search through the Valentine's card section for 10, 15, 20 minutes to find the perfect card only to leave with a cheesy, $5, mediocre card that doesn't really say what you want it to say?!? For this reason, Jon and I have decided to move from commercial cards to handwritten notes. It the message he/she writes in the cheesy cards that you love the most anyway right? (Truth be told, we actually forgot about our cards and didn't exchange them until this morning!)

To finish off this lengthy Valentine's Day post, I would like to share a short list of reasons why I love my Valentine:

1. He helps me cook and do the dishes

2. He loves playing with our nephews and they LOVE their uncle Jon!

3. He always carries my work stuff to my car in the morning and sends me off on my day with a hug, kiss and I love you!

4. He loves Jesus Christ more than anything or anyone in the world and daily strives to become more and more like Him.

5. He is kind, gentle and goes above and beyond for others (including me).

6. He will do the "Single Ladies" by Beyonce dance when I beg! ("if you like it than you shoulda put a ring on it...) It makes so happy!!!

7. He makes me laugh everyday.

8. He has the cutest butt in the world!

9. He's always up for trying new things.

10. He puts up with me with patience and grace!

I love you Jon Bailey!
